I have been painting for over 30 years. In 1982, I received
an Associates Degree in Art History at the Ridgewood School of Art, Ridgewood, NJ under the instruction of Mr. Jim Anderson.
In addition, I spent 2 years attending the Arts Student League in New York City, studying painting techniques under the direction
of Richard Pousette Dart. During the 1980’s I moved to Cape Cod, Massachusetts and painted landscapes plein air with
oils on canvas. There, the presence of light was exciting to a young painter. For the past 10 years I have been focusing my work on western landscapes. America’s
National Parks are some of the most beautiful places on earth. Painting America’s awe-inspiring landscapes is a privilege
for any artist. Western art is finally receiving the accolades and recognition of the world’s finest collectors and
institutions. I believe some of the best landscape painters are western artists.
Today I paint with acrylics on canvas. I do photographic research then work on a
fairly large-scale canvas in my studio. One of my favorite feelings is standing in a secluded spot in Montana or Utah that
has not changed at all since it was inhabited by the first people hundreds of years ago. Most of my recent paintings relate
that feeling through the subject matter of ancient rock walls and original architecture past to present.
I have shown my work at many state and National juried shows
as well as solo shows in Galleries within my county. I have also created commission work of landscapes and charcoal portraits.
I knew at an early age I wanted to draw and paint and have come to realize over the years that I will spend my life learning
how to paint. Painting is not merely a choice, more an essential part of who I am. And in the end, I will have just scratched
the surface of learning how to see, how to paint. I respect the art and always accept the task with a very honest approach;
drawings and an understanding of local colors are what I have learned so far.
It is always the journey that is the best part of any adventure.
